What does Feather mean for Shade?
If you’re reading this, it's probably because you’ve already been on a multi-year journey with Shade. You know the team and community well. You believe in our commitment and resilience. You’re not here for a lame pep talk or a retread of all the things that have made adoption challenging.
You just want to understand if what’s next is both bigger and better, if it’s worth sticking around for as a long-time supporter, and what exactly the launch of Feather means for Shade (and SHD).
So let’s get right to the questions you’re here for.
What will happen to the Shade products?
The development team will continue to support & maintain Shade app functionality. These products will remain on Secret Network.
SILK is part of the long term roadmap. It has been impressively successful in fulfilling its purpose and we look forward to the day when SILK scales. Could SILK’s unmatched utility discover a strong product-market fit in an ecosystem with 100x the TVL?... The dream is alive.
What is the relationship between Feather and Shade?
The core team’s current focus is on Feather’s launch, partnerships, and initial traction as measured by TVL. We are actively growing the Feather community and want the Shade community to become a key part of its strong foundation.
The Shade community will have the option to join the Feather ecosystem via a future SHD token "upgrade," provided that such an initiative is approved by the community via SHD governance. We welcome all of your feedback between now and that time.
Shade products will remain available and actively maintained even as Feather occupies our focus. The Shade team has always held ourselves to a high standard for app functionality and uptime, and we remain stalwart in our commitment to excellence.
Is omnichain still happening?
Yes. Both Feather & SILK are the key products that will carry the omnichain vision forward, with more expansion to come.
Our mission is to connect people everywhere to the Internet of Lending, and that transcends any single chain or ecosystem.
Will Feather offer privacy?
Our thesis remains the same as ever: privacy will be essential for the long-term viability of on-chain economies. The team will actively look for opportunities to integrate privacy into Feather and all products we build.
The key is growth. Pursuing an omnichain experience for our products and maximizing scale (TVL and userbase) will strengthen our liquidity, our potential privacy guarantees, and our potential partnerships.
What does the timeline/roadmap for Feather look like?
Feather’s first ecosystem partner will be announced in September.
Feather’s second ecosystem partner will be announced in —--------------- (Much sooner than you would have thought, right?)
The Shade community will then be invited to discuss and vote on token upgrade or merger governance proposals. The core team does not intend to make any proposals prior to these announcements. We are focused on execution of these partnerships, and once Feather has some room to breathe and take flight, the community at large will be more informed to participate in and lead governance conversations.
With lots of moving parts and exciting opportunities right now, we’re heads down on our communication plans involving many different partners. We ask for your patience (but not your silence!) as we focus on this. Please feel free to ask questions, with an understanding that you may simply get the answers we’ve already given here. We’re fully committed to giving you as much visibility and transparency as possible as we continue to reveal the exciting work that’s gotten us to this stage, so keep an eye on all our channels.
In the meantime, ask anything you like. Again, we only request your understanding and patience when there are details that aren’t ready for release yet. We hope the upcoming announcements will help to assure you that the future is far more exciting than anything we’ve yet to experience together as a community.
